Center for Independent Living

What is the Center for Independent Living (CIL)?
CIL is a support group and aims primarily to act as a catalyst and an enabler for people with significant physical disabilities to live independently in their chosen community. In other words it supports people with significant disabilities to live, study or work fully as they would desire.

Mission statement:
The independent living philosophy espouses living like everyone else: being able to have control of one\'s own life, having opportunities to make decisions that affect one\'s life and being able to pursue activities of one\'s own choosing, regardless of disability

Areas of Focus
CIL focuses on the core issues of transport, housing, disability equality and law reform, international affairs and their calling card Personal Assistance program: the effective first step to Independent Living. Over 25 CIL offices around Ireland run the Personal Assistance Program. A Personal Assistant is someone who works for a person with a significant disability to enable them to physically carry out all their desired actions and duties either during the day or night.

Association with Irishphotoshop
CIL have been assisting Irishphotoshop with the gathering of photos for our site. Irishphotoshop supports the self advocacy philosophy of CIL and is pleased to be associated with such a ground breaking organisation.
